Chanakya University in association with Karnataka State Souharda Federal Cooperative Limited (KSSFCL) organized a session to throw light on ‘Youth and Cooperative Movement India’. Harnessing this potential in cooperative movements has become a strategic priority to foster economic inclusion, Job creation, community development, entrepreneurial skills, and sustainable progress. It is a proud moment to announce that the UN has proclaimed 2025 as the international year of Cooperatives.
The cooperative movement in India has deep roots, envisioned as a tool for economic and social empowerment, cooperatives have played a pivotal role in agriculture, banking, housing, and industrial development. Guided by the principles of mutual aid, democratic participation, and collective ownership, these organizations have enabled millions to achieve financial stability and a sense of community.
However, the cooperative sector today faces challenges such as digital disruption, lack of innovation, and declining youth participation. This necessitates a paradigm shift where young minds redefine cooperative strategies to align with contemporary needs.
The youth bring fresh perspectives, technological acumen, and an entrepreneurial spirit—qualities essential for reinvigorating the cooperative movement. Their active participation can drive: Digital Transformation that will leverage better governance, transparency, and member engagement. Introducing sustainable and scalable business models within cooperatives. Inclusive growth will entice the promotion of participation from diverse demographics, including marginalized communities. Global Outreach and positioning Indian cooperatives in international markets through modern business strategies.
