Prof. Yashavantha Dongre, Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the role of cooperatives and self-help groups (SHGs) in empowering women, alleviating poverty, and promoting entrepreneurship. Quoting examples like Amul and IFFCO. Padmashri awardee Prof. M. K. Sridhar, Chancellor, emphasised India’s deep-rooted tradition of collective effort and cooperation. The keynote by Prof. Morris Altman, a behavioural economist, presented the efficiency of democratic firms, arguing that cooperatives enhance productivity, innovation, and loyalty. A panel discussion moderated by Prof. Chetan Singai explored the future of SSE, with contributions on systems innovation, legal challenges for cooperatives, and gig economy protections. The symposium concluded with discussions on the need for education, leadership, and legal frameworks, with Chanakya University pledging to establish a Cooperative Society for its stakeholders.
