The Centre for Sustainability at Chanakya University, Bengaluru, hosted a National Expert Workshop on Climate Resilient Agriculture (CRA) to address the challenges climate change poses to agriculture. With over half of India’s cultivated land under rain fed systems, the workshop focused on mitigation strategies, adaptive technologies, and policy frameworks for building resilience in agriculture. The inaugural session featured a welcome address by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Yashavantha Dongre and a presentation by Prof. S. Ayyappan, who emphasized the growing frequency of climatic extremes and their impact on crop yields and water availability. The keynote address by Dr. M. Prabhakar, Principal Investigator of NICRA, highlighted community-driven adaptation and agroforestry. Technical sessions covered topics like livestock impacts, horticultural innovations, and climate-smart practices for fisheries. The workshop concluded with discussions on promoting climate-resilient villages, integrating local knowledge with innovations, and implementing climate-smart agricultural practices. Recommendations included capacity-building programs and collaborative efforts to create actionable policy directives for sustainable agriculture in India.
