Interface between Marketing and Strategy, Product Strategy and Brand Management, Macromarketing, Social and Sustainable Enterprises and Educational Leadership, Business Research Methods

Focus of my Research, Teaching, Management Development Programs and Consultancy has been on enhancing strategic and managerial responses of new enterprises, growing and undermanaged organisations, institutions in the private, public, non-profit and cooperative sectors. I have undertaken research strategic responses of enterprises to market changes across ownership forms. I have also focused on turnaround situations. In addition, market entry strategies and market approaches of social enterprises have been another area. The interface between Marketing, Society and Government has also been another dimension of research. I have also examined strategies followed by faith inspired social enterprises in India. In the area of leadership my quest has been to understand grassroots leadership, Dharma based leadership, leadership in hostile situations. In addition, I explore application of Indian thought to management field.

Dr Maruthi R Suresh, is a Professor in the School of Management Sciences at Chanakya University since 2024. He teaches courses on Product Strategy and Brand Management,

Dr Suresh has many years of professional experience in academics, research, and consulting. He started his career as Researcher TERI, New Delhi (earlier known as Tata Energy Research Institute). He was one of the youngest Area Conveners there and examined institutional dimensions in renewable energy. He taught in leading institutions such as IRMA, Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPMB) under (Min of Commerce), Icfai Business School (IBS), Bangalore. He was a Professor in the Marketing area at SDMIMD-Mysore, an EFMD accredited institution and contributed to multiple theatres in the institution building process there in addition to teaching for several years.

His consulting experience was with Tata Economic Consultancy Services (TECS-a division of Tata Sons) where he was principal consultant for corporates, non-profit sector, government and international organizations. As a Senior Consultant he has handled around 30 plus consulting and research assignments of varying durations in different managerial contexts. His research has covered different ownership forms. He has designed several MDPs for executives in corporate firms, cooperative sector, public sector enterprises, civil servants and FDPs. He has taught courses as part of SDMIMD institutional arrangement, at the British University in Dubai (BUiD) and Montpellier Business School, France.

He won awards from Higher Education Forum for Academic Excellence, Emerald-AIMA Indian Management Research Fund award, WeSchool -AIMS Silver Medal for Innovation for conceptualising and implementing the Social Relevant Project at SDMIMD and was also among the 10 top reviewers for a global business publications group. He was Consulting editor, Icfai Journal of Marketing Management, and is on the Editorial board of Icfai Journal of Brand Management. At SDMIMD he was the Chairperson for Placements in 2009-10 and Chairperson of Entrepreneurship cell which he pioneered and nurtured from its inception in 2013 till 2023. He anchored a program called Startup Charcha there which completed the 10th year in 2023. He held Academic Administration positions such as Administration Coordinator and SFA Coordinator at IIPM, Alumni Coordinator at IRMA and assisted the Organisational Restructuring Committee at TERI.

At Chanakya he is member of School (of Management) Research Committee and Chairperson of Examination Ethics Committee.

I have also guided Ph D scholars affiliated to University of Mysore in Strategy and Marketing. The scholars have successfully defended their thesis.

I have led around 30 major research and consultancy assignments either as a principal researcher or handled my component independently with client interface. These were on a variety of themes calling for application of management concepts in complex contexts. Findings of a few studies have been presented in conferences.
