Submission Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in contributing to the Subhas Chandra Bose Chair on International Relations. We welcome original submissions that are analytically rigorous, policy-relevant, and aligned with the Chair’s mandate to explain and critically engage with India’s role in the global order.
Before submitting, please review our publication formats, expectations, and submission process below:
Publication Format
We publish across short-form and long-form formats. Submissions are evaluated by our editorial team and may undergo review processes appropriate to the format.
Analytical Commentaries
Short-form analytical pieces focused on current developments in international relations, geopolitics, and strategic affairs. These pieces should be evidence-based and provide insight into policy and strategic trends. Authors are encouraged to submit a concise pitch of approximately 150 words.
- Indicative length: Up to 1000 words
- Format: Context, analysis, and a clear insight or takeaway
- Use of references: Sources should be hyperlinked or cited in a consistent style
Issue Briefs
Concise analytical accounts of specific policy challenges or geopolitical issues. These should be clear to both expert and informed general readers.
- Indicative length: 1500-3000 words
- Requirements: Endnotes recommended; visuals such as tables or graphs encouraged for clarity
- Review: Substantive review by editorial team with feedback for revisions
Discussion / Occasional Papers
Longer research outputs offering sustained conceptual or empirical engagement on strategic, geopolitical, or economic issues.
- Indicative length for Occasional Paper: 6,000–10,000 words
- Indicative length for Discussion Paper: 20,000 – 30,000 words
- Expectations: Academic rigour, original argument, and clear relevance to India’s international roles
- Review: Peer or editorial review with possible revisions

File requirements:
- Word document (.doc / .docx)
- References in a consistent citation style
- Any tables or figures labelled and embedded
Response time:
We aim to acknowledge receipt within 7 working days and provide review timelines thereafter.
Use of External Tools and Originality
Submissions must be original and not published elsewhere. Where AI, algorithmic tools, or similar technologies are used to support analysis, drafting, or data generation, contributors should disclose this use transparently
Editorial Review and Rights
The Chair reserves the right to accept or reject submissions. Accepted manuscripts may undergo copy-editing for clarity, consistency, and adherence to publication standards before final approval and publication
Selected contributions may be eligible for a modest honorarium, in line with the Chair’s internal publication policy.
