Uncovering the Role of PSMD9 in Breast Cancer: New Research Article Published

In collaboration with Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer, Navi Mumbai and Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai, Dr. Shubhada Hegde’s group published a research article titled “Loss of correlated proteasomal subunit expression selectively promotes the 20SHigh state which underlies luminal breast tumorigenicity”. The study sheds light on the transcriptional deregulation induced-stoichiometric imbalances associated with breast cancer severity. The PSMD9 19S subunit chaperone was demonstrated as a crucial regulator of 26S/30S:20S ratios sustaining tumor cell proteasome function. Depleting PSMD9 cause structural anomalies in the proteasome, and evoke anti-tumor responses which opens up novel therapeutic possibilities.
