The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Global Campus, organized under the leadership of the NCC Army and Naval Wings. The ceremony began with the arrival of dignitaries and the Guard of Honour, led by SUO Prafulla Kumar Gowda (Army Wing), followed by a contingent drill commanded by Sergeant Kusuma (Army Wing). The flag hoisting ceremony filled the campus with the National Anthem, symbolizing unity and pride.
The programme continued in the University Auditorium with a welcome address and an elegant Indian classical dance performance. The highlight was the presence of Maj. Ravindran SM (Retd.), Veteran NSG Commando, as Chief Guest. A decorated officer with experience in high-risk counter-terrorism operations, he shared inspiring stories from his service. His address emphasized media responsibility during national security crises, warning against unverified reporting that could aid hostile forces. He urged students to remain vigilant, safeguard sensitive information, and uphold patriotism with integrity.
An engaging interaction followed with NCC cadets from both wings. Maj. Ravindran spoke about his rigorous training, discipline, and challenges in handling hostage situations, offering valuable guidance to those aspiring to join the armed forces. His reflections instilled a renewed sense of courage, duty, and national pride.
The celebration was presided over by Prof. Yashavantha Dongre (Vice-Chancellor) and Prof. Shrinivas S. Balli (Dean, Student Affairs). The event concluded with students, faculty, and staff carrying forward a strengthened spirit of patriotism and respect for the nation’s heroes.
