About the Special Lecture Series
The Special Lecture Series of the Dr Ramdas Pai Chair on Education provides a platform for disseminating knowledge and fostering critical thinking on a range of topics within the liberal disciplines. The series targets students, academics, and individuals interested in exploring complex issues and developing a comprehensive understanding of contemporary challenges. The Chair invites eminent scholars from throughout the world to help accomplish these goals.
About the Topic
While NEP 2020 assigns a central role to mother tongue (MT) in education for multilingualism, it also finds MT to be elusive. How is MT related to multilingualism and children’s multilingual repertoire? Is the three-language-formula in the NEP workable? How well does the NEP address the transition from MT to multilingualism? These and related questions are taken up in this presentation which seeks to offer conceptualization of Multilingualism as a First Language (MFL) as a basis for a dynamic model of Multilingual Education.
