Sneak Peek to Psychodrama: Exploring Healing Through Theatre

On 21st August 2025, the Office of Student Affairs, organized an engaging workshop titled “Sneak Peek to Psychodrama”. The session was facilitated by Dr. Radhika Jain, Applied Theatre Practitioner, Certified Psychodrama Director, Psychotherapist, and Co-founder & Artistic Director of the First Drop Change Foundation, Bangalore.

Psychodrama, developed by Jacob L. Moreno, is an action-based therapeutic method that integrates role-playing, improvisation, and group interaction to promote healing, insight, and self-awareness.

The workshop was structured in three phases: warm-up, action, and sharing. Students began with ice-breakers, sociometry, and trust-building activities that helped establish a safe and supportive environment. This was followed by experiential exercises, including stress-coping strategies, role plays, and the Empty Chair technique, through which participants confronted inner conflicts, expressed unspoken emotions, and explored new perspectives. Core psychodrama methods such as role reversal, mirroring, doubling, and soliloquy were also demonstrated, enabling participants to better understand themselves and others.

The session concluded with a reflective sharing circle, where students discussed their insights, emotions, and personal experiences. This debrief reinforced learning and encouraged openness and empathy within the group.
