Chanakya Edge
The course is designed to provide multiple options to students to pursue a major in one topic and a minor in another (at least 32 credits points in the minor). The SMNS comprises Chemistry, Data Science, Mathematics and Physics subdisciplines. Students have the option of choosing any of one of these as a major and any other as a minor. More generally, they can select a minor from a different school as well, such as the School of Biosciences or the School of Engineering Sciences.
The B.Sc. course is designed in such a way that the student can pursue any option from a wide variety of possible combinations. For example, those interested in new energy storage solutions can take Chemistry major and Physics minor or those interested in quantum cryptography may select Data Science as major and Physics as minor. Similarly, students interested in pharmaceutical chemistry may find Chemistry major and Biology minor as a natural choice.
The course is structured in such a way that it also allows students to pursue their main interest purely for the sake of deeper understanding of the subject and subsequently join the research programme in that field.
The B.Sc. course in SMNS at Chanakya University therefore is a unique blend of multidisciplinary training, which can appeal to a broader class of students. This includes those who are purists and want to pursue research in these fields as well as those who have a more commercial interests with core training in the basic sciences and ancillary training in applied disciplines like, Aeronautical Engineering, Biotechnology, Economics, etc
Higher focus on core chemistry courses such as organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry, to develop in-depth knowledge.
- All core courses are designed to develop both conceptual knowledge and practical experience.
- There is a greater emphasis on hands-on, experimental learning with increased credits for practical sessions.
- State-of-the-art research facilities for hands-on training (not mere demonstrations). Students will have the opportunity to operate high-end equipment and learn by doing.
- Internationally trained faculty members.
- Curriculum focused on developing high-end skills that are in demand, such as experiment design, data analysis, and problem-solving.
- Innovative pedagogy including self-study, group discussions, quizzes, and field visits.
- Multiple capstone research projects under the guidance of faculty, allowing students to work on real-world problems.
- Strong collaboration with IIT’s and Industry interactions.
Unique combination of major and minor subjects to provide broader career options for students, such as chemistry with entrepreneurship, data science, or biotechnology.
- Professional core courses introduce students to highly demanded emerging areas, such as materials chemistry, electrochemistry, medicinal chemistry, green chemistry, chemical biology, and the art of organic synthesis.
- Unique open electives to develop more profound expertise in pharmaceutical chemistry, renewable energy chemistry, and computational chemistry.
- One project focusing on new ideas and testing – students are encouraged to come up with new ideas.
- Option to complete one full-semester project or internship at an academic institution (IITs and IISC) or industry.
- University foundation courses for holistic development, including courses in research methodologies, scientific writing, and presentation skills.
Programme Structure
- Chanakya University follows the NEP-based structure with a strong focus on foundation courses that emphasize the language and heritage of our country.
- The program comprises a total of 160 credits, covering majors (80 credits), minors (32 credits), and foundation courses (48 credits). An exit option after three with 120 credits (60 major+24 minor+ 36 foundation) is also available.
- It also offers a wide range of elective choices to help students gain additional skills, while research projects provide valuable real-world exposure.
