Report on Special Talk by Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan on ‘Genome to Om’ at Chanakya University

Chanakya University hosted a special talk by Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan, Member, International Advisory Committee, Chanakya University and Former Vice Chairman, University Grants Commission, on the topic “Genome to Om.” The event was attended by faculty members, researchers, and students from various disciplines, eager to gain insights into the intersection of genomics, traditional knowledge, and consciousness studies.

Genome to Om explored the transition from modern science to meta-science, blending ethical, moral, and spiritual insights while recognizing the interconnectedness of all aspects of life. It emphasizes a holistic scientific approach, talking of the marvels of science and technology, and the consequent perils that have engulfed all living beings and the planet itself. He was intrigued by questions about the wonders of the cosmos, life’s origin, and most of all, the goal and purpose of life’s journey. Genome represents the dynamic modern science, while Om embodies universal consciousness as the ultimate reality.

The discussion moved beyond genetics to the broader concept of ‘Om’—a fundamental element in spiritual traditions, particularly in the Indian knowledge system. He also elaborated on the connections between ancient wisdom and contemporary scientific discoveries, emphasizing the need for an integrative approach to understanding life, consciousness, and healing.

A key highlight of the session was his discourse on Ayurgenomics, a field that integrates Ayurveda with genomics to offer personalized healthcare solutions. He shared insights on how traditional knowledge systems like Ayurveda can complement modern medical practices, leading to more effective and holistic treatments.

The interactive session following the talk saw engaging discussions where students and faculty posed questions on topics such as epigenetics, meditation’s impact on gene expression, and the role of traditional knowledge in shaping future scientific research. Prof. Patwardhan provided thought-provoking responses, encouraging the audience to explore interdisciplinary research opportunities.
