My Doctoral research in urban water management focuses on using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to improve the understanding and management of complex urban water systems facing challenges from climate change and rapid urban growth. The study aims to develop spatial tools and frameworks that support efficient water resource planning, risk assessment, and sustainable infrastructure development.

Through detailed GIS based mapping and analysis, the research examines urban water networks, including supply, stormwater, and wastewater systems. It explores how land-use changes, population growth, and climate factors influence water distribution and quality across city regions. The spatial insights generated help identify areas of vulnerability, inefficiency, or imbalance within urban water cycles.

While predictive modelling forms one component, the main focus is on integrating spatial data analysis with adaptive planning approaches. This includes strategies such as decentralized water reuse, green infrastructure design, and improved coordination among water utilities and planners.
The goal is to create accessible, data-supported frameworks that guide more sustainable and resilient urban water management practices. This research contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 11 by promoting efficient use of water resources and building environmentally sound, well-planned urban communities.

Prakul T V is a doctoral scholar at the School of Biosciences, Chanakya University, Bengaluru. He holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Science from Bengaluru City University, Bengaluru. His research focuses on using GIS to analyse and improve urban water management system for sustainable, resilient, and climate adaptive city planning.

His research explores the evolving challenges of urban water management and their influence on planning and governance frameworks. A key strand examines the resilience of urban water systems using GIS-based spatial analysis to enhance sustainable and adaptive management practices.

He contributed to projects that enriched the understanding of the dynamics between environmental systems and human activity. As a GIS intern, He has developed land use and land cover mapping for Bagalkote Taluk, Karnataka, using ArcGIS. This project provided critical insights into regional land use patterns. Additionally, He has worked on a project titled “Habitat Restoration in Degraded Forest Lands Supporting Tribal Livelihoods and Community in Wayanad, Kerala”. This initiative involved assessing habitat restoration’s ecological and social impacts, specifically focusing on the regulatory services provided by restored ecosystems. He contributed to environmental audits for higher education institutions. These audits involved calculating carbon footprints and evaluating sustainable practices, further refining the environmental assessment and data analysis expertise and he co-teaches Chanakya Foundation Courses on Climate Change Through Data.
