My research interest lies in exploring Indian philosophical ideas and cultural practices within the field of psychology. I am currently studying the value orientation and motivational aspects that underlie the practice of Seva and attempting to understand it both experientially and theoretically. Seva, often understood as selfless service, has been an integral part of Indian life and thought for centuries. However, its psychological dimensions have not been widely examined in academic research. Through my work, I aim to explore Seva as a practice that reflects human values, motivation, and social connectedness.

I am interested in understanding how such culturally embedded practices can be examined within psychological frameworks, especially in relation to concepts of meaning, purpose, and individual well-being. My broader research direction focuses on integrating Indian philosophical perspectives with contemporary psychological thought to contribute to more culturally relevant understandings of human behaviour and mental health.

At this stage, my work remains exploratory, seeking to identify theoretical linkages and possible frameworks through which practices like Seva can be studied and understood in psychology. I approach this through reviewing traditional texts, contemporary interpretations, and the lived experiences of individuals engaged in Seva. This ongoing exploration reflects my effort to build a bridge between Indian knowledge systems and modern psychological perspectives while maintaining academic rigor and cultural sensitivity.

Chinmayee C P is a Research Scholar in the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Chanakya University, Bengaluru. Her research focuses on integrating Indian philosophical perspectives with modern psychology, with a particular interest in understanding the practice of Seva—selfless service—from a psychological viewpoint. She aims to explore the value orientation and motivational aspects that shape Seva and its relevance in psychological theory and practice.

She completed her M.Sc. in Counselling Psychology, where she undertook her dissertation titled “Influence of Visual-Based Social Media on Body Image Perception: A Multidimensional Study Among Young Adults.” She also worked as a Research Intern at the Centre for Educational and Social Studies (CESS), Bengaluru, under the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division, where she was involved in academic writing on leadership traits of historical figures and resilience in Indian narratives.

Beyond her research, Chinmayee serves as an Executive Member and Volunteer of the Prajna, a forum under yuvaka sangha which promotes mental health awareness and community-based mental health initiatives
