Book Launch and Discussion on Dharmanomics By Sri Sriram Balasubramanian

A book launch was held on 25th November, 2024 by the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems for a new publication by Author Sri Sriram Balasubramanian titled “Dharmanomics”. This comes as a sequel to his earlier book “Kautilyanomics”, the launch of which was also hosted at Chanakya University in 2022. The session began with Dr. Vinayachandra Banavathy welcoming the guest and introducing the book, followed by the authors introduction to the book and setting the context for the discussion. Sri Shivakumar G.V. Director, IKS Changemakers at Indica, was a special guest invited to facilitate the discussion on the book. The Discussion explained how the three parts of the book, each delve into various paradigms of Economics from an Indian perspective, for instance the practice of the ‘Śreṇi’ system which was used as a financial control framework through various kingdoms. The discussion also showed how prominent towns developed with Temples at their core leading to organized temple economy where temples were not just a place of worship. Many such insights and details regarding commerce and governance in medieval India were gained through the discussion. The discussion was followed by a question-answer session by the students. Participants included over 120 individuals including students, research scholars and faculty. The session concluded by Prof. Bhavani M.R. from School of Management Sciences honoring the guests and a vote of thanks by Dr. Vinayak Rajat Bhat, Associate professor, Centre forIndian Knowledge Systems.
