Chanakya Studios

About Chanakya Studio Courses
Chanakya Studios is a week-long festival of learning where students go through a unique and immersive learning experience. The Studios are a set of curated courses that emphasize hands-on, experiential learning and reimagine the classroom by making it a space for experimenting, creating, and reflecting. We invite you to register for the courses offered during the summer semester break, tentatively scheduled for Summer 2025.
Studio Teaching Approach
Studio courses revolve around design-based or problem-based learning.
The following are core elements of studio-based approach at Chanakya University:
The faculty/instructor will take on the role of a facilitator rather than a typical teacher. Faculty and students co-create the knowledge/learning. Discussions, dialogues, interaction, projects are key pedagogical/andragogical approaches to learning in studio classroom. There will be very few lectures by the designated instructor/faculty. In addition, or in place of faculty lecture, there could be invited expert lectures.
Learning through collaboration is the core of the studio courses. Students work in teams, groups to learn. Activities designed will generally emphasize collaborative and cooperative learning. Instructor/faculty should consciously promote peer learning.
Exchange of information and ideas between and among students within a group and among groups is said to create and expand knowledge/learning base.
The Course is completely driven by students. Responsibility for learning is predominantly placed on the students rather than on the faculty.
The studio course is offered over six days, wherein the last day is meant for students exhibits, expo, presentation, evaluation. Unlike the 40-90 minutes teaching hours, studio course teaching hours are extended for a whole day with intermittent breaks.
Group work and beyond class hours work are encouraged. The studio course calls for students’ participation. Therefore, it is very important for instructor/faculty to ensure that all students actively participate in the group work, project, activities, idea brainstorming, presentation etc., for immersive learning outcomes.
In the absence of a problem, the instructor can come up with projectswith specific learning objectives, especially for subjects/disciplines falling under the humanities and social sciences.
