Welcome to our new library!!

The library at Chanakya University promotes Joy of Learning through its wide collections of books, e-journals, and audio-visual resources, serves as a hub for co-learning. Chanakya University library aims to cater extensive information/knowledge required for academic community including students, researchers, faculty, and staff members. The central library strategically located on the ground floor of the new main building with easy access, ample natural light and greenery all around. The library is spread across two floors with a floor area of 17,000 sq. ft.  Currently, upper ground is functioning fully fledged with capacity of 150 seats and can hold up to 10,000 volumes. 

Central Library is open from 9.30 am to 9.30 pm (Monday to Saturday)

Document circulation
  1. Students/ Faculty/ Research scholars must have library card issued by Central Library to access the library resources. 
  2. Subject specific books can be availed for 7 days and general books for 15 days. Noncompliance to this, fine of Rs. 5 to be paid per book per day.  
  3. If the book is in high demand but in limited stock, the library has the authority to recall the book from the concerned Students/ Faculty/ Research scholars.
  4. In case, Students/ Faculty/ Research scholars loses the borrowed document, he/she must replace the book with a fresh copy from market. Otherwise, a penalty of 200% cost of the book/ materials.
  5. Students/ Faculty/ Research scholars can place on HOLD or RESERVE two items that are currently checked out. They will be notified when the item becomes available. 
  6. The number of documents Students/ Faculty/ Research scholars can borrow are as follows:

General rules and guidelines

Library has a code of conduct to ensure a respectful and peaceful environment for all users and hence request the users as follows:

  • Treat fellow patrons, staff, and library property with respect and courtesy.
  • Maintain a quiet atmosphere inside the library, especially in designated quiet zones and private study areas. 
  • Keep your cell phone on silent or vibrate mode and do not take calls inside the library. 
  • Please do not leave items unattended, library will not be responsible for any loss of personal belongings.
  • If individuals wish to bring their own books into the reading hall, they must present them at the counter before departing.
Resource sharing / Interlibrary loans

Chanakya library currently has membership with libraries of three well known organisation in the city, namely.

  1. Indian Institute of Science, 
  2. Azim Premji University.
  3. Indian Institute of management.  

The library also has membership with INFLIBNET/ UGC which enables access to select resources & services. In addition, the library leverages its contacts & goodwill to obtain articles & reports from other libraries in the country.

The Resources

The library currently has a collection of about 5700+ books, 20+ print magazines / journals and 12+ News Papers.

It subscribes to following Software/ Discovery Systems

  1. J-gate journal discovery services:
    J-Gate is an electronic gateway to global e-journal literature, providing access to a large number of academic and research journals. It acts as a platform for searching and accessing scholarly content from various disciplines, including science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and more.
  2. DrilBit plagiarism check software:
    Drilbit is used to verify the originality of research by comparing submitted manuscripts against vast databases, producing reports that highlight any potential instances of plagiarism or similarities with existing academic content.
  3. JSTOR
    JSTOR is a digital library that provides access to more than 12 million journal articles, books, images, and primary sources in 75 disciplines.
  4. SCC Online (Supreme Court Cases Online):
    SCC Online is a legal research platform that provides access to a vast collection of legal materials, including case law, statutes, regulations, legal commentary, and other legal research resources. It is widely used by legal professionals, researchers, and students to access and analyse judgments from various courts, including the Supreme Court of India.
  5. Hein Online:
    Hein Online is a premier online research platform that specializes in providing access to legal research materials and government documents. It offers a comprehensive collection of law journals, historical legal documents, government publications, and other legal resources, making it a valuable tool for legal research.
