I am passionate about integrating traditional Indian social values with contemporary social work practices to foster community well-being, youth empowerment, and inclusive development. My research is rooted in the belief that social work education and intervention must evolve with societal challenges while remaining grounded in ethical principles.

My postgraduate research focused on the impact of online learning on secondary school students, which highlighted the gaps in digital access and emotional support during the pandemic. My academic inquiry further extends to employability skills, skill development programmes, mental health counselling, and gender equity. I am particularly interested in understanding how social work can be a bridge between policy implementation and people’s lived realities.

Having worked in both rural and urban contexts — including government initiatives like the International Migration Centre under the Skill Development Department and grassroots settings such as palliative care units — I bring practical insights into the field of education, counselling, and community health.

My current interests include integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into social work pedagogy, exploring indigenous models of community welfare, and working with youth on empowerment and employment strategies. I continue to mentor and guide students in fieldwork, research projects, and rural camps. I strongly believe that experiential learning, research, and reflective practice are the cornerstones of a meaningful social work education and practice.

Shubhashri Gopalkrishna Kamalapur is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Chanakya University. She has previously served as a Teaching Assistant at Karnatak University, and has experience working as a Palliative Care Counsellor at Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement and as District Counsellor at the International Migration Centre Karnataka under the state’s Skill Development Department.

She holds a Master’s in Social Work and a Bachelor’s in Home Science, with eligibility through the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET). Her academic pursuits focus on youth empowerment, gender rights, skill development, and health-based social work interventions.

She has published 10 research articles—4 in UGC CARE listed journals and 6 in peer-reviewed journals—and presented papers in state, national, and international conferences. She has also guided and supervised fieldwork and dissertations of over 20 postgraduate students.

Her academic contributions are complemented by a strong interest in Indian Knowledge Systems, field-based learning, and interdisciplinary approaches to social work. She actively participates in workshops, seminars, and outreach programs, with a long-term goal of revitalizing indigenous models in modern social welfare frameworks.
