Webinar on the Theme of India and the West Asia Crisis: Navigating the Geopolitical Challenge

The geopolitical landscape in West Asia is dynamic, volatile, rapidly evolving and in a situation of flux. This presents emerging and increasingly structurally embedded challenges to regional and global security. The ‘no peace, no war’ situation characterized by a protracted stalemate has arisen out of the conflict involving Iran, Israel, the United States, the Gulf nations, and a whole host of other non-state actors. This has pushed the region’s already fragile security architecture to the brink. Energy supply chains are severely disrupted and increasingly under stress as India tries to navigate the challenges related to domestic energy security and economic stability. The current crisis also poses a severe challenge to the resilience of India’s foreign policy framework of multi-alignment. The risk of a wider regional conflict could also have strategic implications on India, including the trajectory of connectivity projects.

Amidst these global pressures and regional polarisation, the question that presents to the larger strategic community is how can India maintain its strategic autonomy, navigate the rapidly evolving West Asian crisis and at the same time secure its core security and economic interests?
