Sushobhan Mahata
Ph.D., University of Calcutta, KolkataMy research quest is anchored in the development of rigorous, multi-sector general equilibrium models and applied game-theoretic frameworks to decode the complex interplays defining developing economies. The primary focus of this academic pursuit lies at the critical intersection of international trade, structural labor market transitions, social economics and institutional imperfections. Simultaneously, the research tackles the political economy of governance, modeling the strategic nexus of crime, political cronyism, and financial corruption. By examining how trade liberalization interacts with banking bribery or how technology-driven shifts alter occupational hierarchies, this work builds an analytical toolkit for welfare-maximizing public policy.
Dr. Sushobhan Mahata is a dedicated mathematical economist specializing in Microeconomic Modeling and General Equilibrium and Applied Game Theoretical Modeling. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Chanakya University, while concurrently as an Honorary Research Scientist and In-Charge of the Quality Research Support System (QRSS) at the School for Training and Analytical Research in Economics, Business and Society (STAREBS), India.
Dr. Mahata completed his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Calcutta, where his doctoral research investigated the Political economy of Globalization and Development. His academic background is deeply rooted in rigorous theoretical training, having achieved First Class Honors during both his B.Sc. at Scottish Church College (where he ranked first in his college) and his M.Sc. in Economics at the University of Calcutta.
A key highlight of his research profile is his extensive network of collaborations with distinguished, leading economists globally. He actively works alongside prominent domestic scholars such as Prof. Sugata Marjit (Director of STAREBS, Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, and Visiting Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University) and Prof. Krishnendu Ghosh Dastidar (Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University), while also maintaining strong international research collaborations with co-authors at the University of Queensland (Australia) and Utah State University (USA). Driven by a strong commitment to academic excellence, Dr. Mahata also serves as a peer reviewer for prominent international journals, including the Review of Development Economics, International Review of Economics and Finance, Foreign Trade Review, Arthaniti and others.
