Call for Bose Internship Programme

Deadline: 15 July 2026

About Bose Internship Programme

The Subhas Chandra Bose Chair of International Relations at Chanakya University, Bengaluru, offers a structured internship programme for research scholars throughout the year. Typically spanning two to three months, the programme is designed to support emerging scholars engaged in areas such as International Relations, Neighbourhood Studies, China Studies, South Asian, Southeast Asian, West Asian and Central Asian Studies, and other related fields. The internship provides a platform for students and young researchers from diverse academic backgrounds, including the social sciences, humanities, and sciences, to deepen their research interests. Under the mentorship of experienced faculty, interns are encouraged to refine their analytical abilities, strengthen academic writing, and engage with contemporary policy-relevant debates. The programme also exposes participants to the workings of an academic research environment, including participation in seminars, discussions, and other scholarly events.

About Subhas Chandra Bose Chair of International Relations

The Subhas Chandra Bose Chair of International Relations represents a pioneering initiative designed to redefine the discourse surrounding the dynamic complexities of 21st-century International Relations, informed by an Indian perspective. Anchored in Indian strategic culture, its mandate is to support India’s rising trajectory in global affairs through the infusion of innovative ideas and evidence-based research. Apart from fostering interdisciplinary research, the Chair seeks to equip advanced learners and researchers with expertise in key international relations domains, and nurture partnerships and a collaborative community dedicated to driving research and innovation forward. The Chair’s work is focused on Asia, with a special priority being given to India’s neighbourhood.

Structure

The internship is ordinarily offered for a duration of 2 months, with the possibility of a one-month extension based on mutual agreement and the nature of the research work.

The internship is primarily intended for research scholars working on China, India’s neighbourhood, extended neighbourhood, and other research areas of the Chair. The programme helps them gain work experience, and sharpens their research, writing, and other organisational skills, giving them exposure to high-quality scholarship that may further encourage them to pursue higher studies.

On-campus Internship

On-campus Interns are given a modest stipend of Rupees eight thousand per month. The two selected on-campus interns are to be assigned to the Chair’s research activities on Indian Neighbourhood and China.

Virtual Internship

Recognising geographical constraints, the Chair also offers a virtual internship track. This enables candidates who are unable to be physically present in Bengaluru to engage with the programme remotely through online modes, working on guided research assignments aligned with their academic pursuits. No stipend is offered to Virtual Interns. The two selected virtual interns are to be assigned to the Chair’s social media outreach and assist with the activities associated with the Indian Journal of Neighbourhood Studies.

Expectations

The scholar will be required to present a statement of purpose, detailing their academic interests and an IR theme that they would like to work on. This submission will be assessed by the Chair in terms of its suitability, and the availability of the Chair’s research staff to guide the scholar as needed.

Each intern will be assigned a mentor from the SCB Chair or outside. Interns are expected to work closely with their mentors and actively engage with ongoing research and academic activities.

The internship is intended to culminate in a substantive research output, such as a research paper, policy brief, or analytical report aligned with the intern’s academic trajectory. Interns are also expected to write at least one Research Blog.

Interns are required to contribute to the Chair’s broader initiatives, including academic events, seminars, and collaborative discussions, depending on institutional requirements.

A fortnightly progress report must be submitted to the mentor and the designated faculty coordinator to ensure steady academic progress.

Outstanding work may be considered for publication through appropriate academic platforms associated with the Chair. These may include working paper series, research blogs, or analytical publications. Exceptional submissions may also be recommended for consideration in reputed academic journals. However, any such publication is contingent upon the originality, rigour, and overall quality of the work.
