The first semester of engineering is often remembered as a crucible of equations, circuits, and code. But for the first-year students of the School of Engineering, it was something far richer. Alongside their technical curriculum, they embarked on an unexpected journey, one guided not by formulae, but by rhythm, colour, clay, and expression.
Through a thoughtfully curated selection of Humanities and Social Sciences electives, students were invited to step outside the familiar and into the expansive world of the arts. The courses on offer, Folk Art, Bharatanatyam, The Swara Code (Singing), Idea Engine (Creative Writing), Pottery and Clay Modelling, Dance, Movement and Choreography, Painting, and Indian Theatre, were as diverse as the students who chose them.
This initiative was rooted in a simple but powerful belief: that a well-rounded engineer is not only technically sound but also imaginative, empathetic, and culturally aware. Guided by accomplished visiting faculty, seasoned practitioners and experts in their respective art forms, students did not merely learn techniques. They were encouraged to question, interpret, and reimagine. The semester culminated in a vibrant showcase on 22nd January, where performances, creations, and creative works came together in a celebration of learning in its truest sense.
