On Monday, June 19, 2023, the Centre for Economic Studies at Chanakya University hosted a comprehensive lecture series on Economics featuring Sri Mayank Goel, founder of Dhimahi Institute of Education & Learning (DIEL). The event, conducted entirely online, aimed to provide insights into the history, concepts, and evolution of economics. Mayank Goel, a prominent figure engaged in building human capital and pursuing a PhD from NIT Patna, commenced the lecture series with a chronological exploration of economic thought. The morning session delved into the brief history of economic thought, spanning from Feudalism to Mercantilism and Physiocracy. The midday session shifted gears to discuss concepts and ideas in modern economics, covering Karl Marx, Neo-Classicals, Keynesianism, Neo-Keynesianism, Monetarism, and New-Classical theories. In the afternoon, the focus turned towards the evolution of the Indian economy post-globalization. Mr. Goel navigated through Social Choice Theory, including Arrow’s Impossibility and Amartya Sen’s connection, shedding light on the impact of significant events such as the 2008 Financial Crisis and the challenges faced during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr. Saurav Sarma, in his concluding remarks, delivered a Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the insightful lectures delivered by Mayank Goel. The event successfully provided participants with a deep understanding of economic theories and their application to contemporary global and Indian scenarios.
