THE meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the margins of the BRICS summit in New Delhi was consequential. It was Xi’s first visit to India in seven years, since Mamallapuram in October 2019, with the transgressions in eastern Ladakh, the Galwan clash and a painful rebuilding process in between.
