Prof. Narendra Ahuja

Prof. Narendra Ahuja is a Research Professor in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Beckman Institute, and the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana‑Champaign (UIUC). His research spans artificial intelligence, including computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, and image processing, with applications addressing societal challenges. He received his B.E. (Hons) from BITS Pilani, M.E. (Distinction) from IISc Bangalore, and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Prof. Ahuja served as the Founding Director of IIIT Hyderabad (1999–2002) and as the Founding Director of the Information Technology Research Academy (ITRA), a national Government of India initiative, from 2013 to 2019. He has co‑authored three books, published over 500 research papers, and supervised more than 60 PhD students. A Fellow of multiple international academies, he is a recipient of numerous prestigious awards and honors for his contributions to AI research and education.
