Prof. Anurag Mairal

Dr. Anurag Mairal is Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Director of Global Outreach Programs at the Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign, Stanford University. He is also a Faculty Fellow and Lead for Technology Innovation and Impact at the Center for Innovation in Global Health. In these roles, he leads global initiatives that apply the biodesign process to address healthcare challenges in resource‑constrained settings and facilitates international innovation opportunities for Stanford students, faculty, and fellows.

Dr. Mairal is a founding co‑director of MED 232: Global Health—Scaling Health Technology Innovations in Low‑Resource Settings and a founding faculty member of BIOE 371: Global Biodesign. Previously, he served as Associate Director of the Stanford‑India Biodesign and Singapore‑Stanford Biodesign programs. He is the Founding Chair of BME IDEA APAC and holds an honorary professorship at the University of Cape Town.

With extensive experience in medical technology development and commercialization, Dr. Mairal has held leadership roles at PATH and Johnson & Johnson, and is Co‑Founder and Executive Vice President of Orbees Medical. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering, an MBA, multiple patents, and has published widely in medical technology innovation.
