Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde

Originating from Nagpur, Maharashtra, Justice (Retd.) Sharad Arvind Bobde served as the 47th Chief Justice of India, holding office from November 2019 to April 2021. With a distinguished judicial career spanning over four decades, he is widely regarded for his deep commitment to constitutional values and judicial independence. During his tenure at the Supreme Court, Justice Bobde played a pivotal role in several landmark judgments, including significant matters relating to AADHAR, constitutional governance, religious freedoms, and environmental protection.
Before his elevation as Chief Justice of India, he served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, and a Judge of the Bombay High Court. Known for his clarity of legal reasoning and balanced jurisprudence, Justice Bobde continues to contribute meaningfully to academic and institutional governance.
