Workshop on Digital Land Records- Technology, Governance and Legal Frameworks

An enriching and thought-provoking workshop by Ms. Deepika Jha, (Assistant Professor, School of Governance, IIHS University, Lead – Practice, IIHS Centre for Land Governance), exploring the intricate relationship between land records, property rights, and legal processes in India.

The session provided valuable insights into Records of Rights (ROR), while highlighting the crucial distinction between ownership, possession, and the evidentiary value of different property records.

A larger focus was on the growing digitization of land records, alongside concerns surrounding accuracy, accessibility, privacy, transparency, and the reliability of historical records. The session also emphasized the importance of property due diligence-verifying ownership, tracing the chain of title, examining boundaries and encumbrances, and understanding state-specific legal frameworks. The lecture precisely bridged legal theory with practical understanding, offering a deeper perspective on how land documentation shapes property rights, transactions, and contemporary legal disputes.
