The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) hosted a four-hour talk and panel discussion on affordable technologies for mass diabetes care, featuring exceptional speakers such as Dr. Ananthasuresh (HAG Professor, IISc), Dr. Navakanta Bhat (HAG Professor, IISc), Dr. Radhakant Padhi (HAG Professor, IISc), and Dr. Siddharth Jhunjhunwala (Associate Professor, IISc).
Dr. Siddharth shared his experience of on-ground interactions with a community representing the general public and its diabetic population, along with observations drawn from the data collected during this engagement.
Dr. Ananthasuresh presented his ongoing project on a dynamic offloading footwear designed to correct uneven weight distribution across the soles of the feet during walking and standing — a problem that, in diabetic patients, can lead to further complications such as diabetic foot. The project is aptly named “StrideAide.”
The highlight of the event was the official launch of “SugarSight,” an AI-powered self-monitoring system for diabetic patients led by Dr. Padhi. The app, paired with a self-deployable sensor, was formally launched for public use by former Chief Minister of Karnataka, B. S. Yediyurappa. It is capable of monitoring blood sugar levels, alerting users to extreme fluctuations, and tracking activity metrics such as daily steps and exercise.
