The Schools of Law, Governance and Public Policy and Management Sciences jointly hosted a symposium on January 28, 2026, examining recommendations for the 16th Finance Commission. Speakers Ms. Nisha Holla and Ms. Surabhi Hodigere presented findings centred on significant shifts in devolution criteria, notably raising population weightage to 75% and incorporating SDG-linked incentives at 17.5%, prioritising SDGs directly tied to fiscal equity. The session also addressed the contentious issue of states penalised for successful population control, proposing compensatory grant mechanisms.
