Exploring Pathways for Academic Exchange with Japan
The University welcomed Prof. Daisuke Matsushima from the Institute of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Sciences at Kanazawa University for an insightful talk on 19th February 2026 at Room 231, Admin Block. The session drew an engaged audience of students and faculty keen to explore pathways for higher education and academic exchange with Japan.
Prof. Matsushima opened by situating Japan within the broader landscape of global higher education, highlighting its distinctive combination of research rigour, technological advancement, and deep philosophical tradition. He noted that Japanese universities, particularly institutions like Kanazawa, have been actively expanding their international outlook and are increasingly receptive to students from South and Southeast Asia.
The talk covered a range of practical dimensions, scholarship programmes, research fellowships, and structured exchange opportunities available to Indian students at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Prof. Matsushima emphasised that language need not be a barrier, pointing to the growing number of English-medium programmes and joint research initiatives being offered across Japanese universities.
He also spoke about the unique academic culture in Japan, one that values patience, precision, and interdisciplinary inquiry, drawing parallels with India’s own intellectual traditions. The session included a candid discussion on the challenges international students typically face and how universities like Kanazawa have been building support structures to ease that transition. The talk concluded with an open conversation on potential collaborations between Chanakya University and Japanese institutions, signalling a promising direction for future academic partnerships.
