At the Indo-European Summer Academy 2025, Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General of the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), delivered a session on India’s transition to clean urban mobility.
She presented a roadmap where biofuels, biogas, ethanol, green hydrogen, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) play central roles. These fuels, she explained, are not only alternatives to fossil fuels but also key drivers of change—reducing dependence on imports, creating rural jobs through decentralised biogas, powering public transport with bio-CNG and biodiesel, and converting urban waste into energy. Together, they form a pathway to meet India’s Net Zero 2070 and Energy Independence 2047 goals.
Dr. Dhawan also addressed the challenges of high capital costs, production expenses, and scaling technologies, while pointing to opportunities in public-private partnerships, clean fuel integration, and employment along the value chain.
The session provided participants with insights into linking clean energy with sustainable urban futures.
