Chanakya University is located ~30 min drive from Bangalore International Airport in Devanahalli area of Bangalore, also known as Bengaluru. Earlier famous as city of lakes and garden city, the “Silicone Valley” of India -Bangalore enjoys a moderate climate year-round due to its elevation at ~900 m (3,000 ft) above sea level. Bangalore’s weather is generally mild and comfortable, but it’s also known for its unpredictability. The city enjoys moderate temperatures throughout the year, but changes can happen suddenly. Here’s a breakdown of the weather throughout the year, along with clothing suggestions to keep you comfortable during your stay:
Summer
(March to May)
Temperature: Ranges from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F), with April being the hottest. Light and breathable clothes like cotton or linen are ideal during the day. However, the evenings can be cooler, so having a sweatshirt is a good idea.
Monsoon
(June to September)
Temperature: Moderate, between 20°C and 29°C (68°F to 85°F). August and September see the heaviest rainfall, often more than 140 mm (5.5 inches). A raincoat or umbrella can be useful during this time, as rains/light shower or drizzle can come without warning.
Winter
(November to February)
Temperature: Ranges from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F), with December and January being the coldest months. Mornings and evenings are chilly, so pack sweaters, sweatshirts or light jackets. During the day, a regular long-sleeved shirt will keep you warm without overheating and for classroom or outdoor activities.
Humidity is generally moderate throughout the year, with higher levels during the monsoon. Bangalore’s pleasant climate makes it ideal for year-round living.
Pre-Arrival Instructions for International Students
Before departing your home country, please ensure the following steps are completed to guarantee a smooth transition to Chanakya University:
Visa
International students planning to study in India must obtain a Student Visa, while Ph.D. students need a Research Visa. The University administration sends an provisional admission letter, which is necessary for obtaining these visas from the nearest Indian Consulate. It is advised to apply for the visa immediately after receiving the admission letter. Our university administration will guide and support you on every step.
Key Information
- Application Process: Students should apply for the visa before arriving in India, through their home country’s Indian Mission, which will inform them of processing times (usually 3 to 6 weeks).
- Student Visa: Valid for the duration of the course or up to five years. You cannot change your university (mentioned in Visa) or purpose of stay once the visa is issued. However Visa can be extended, after arrival.
- Visa Requirements: You need to submit a passport (valid for at least six months), admission letters, and other relevant documents as per requirement of Visa regulations.
Students can apply for visas at Indian Embassies/High Commissions if they have a provisional admission letter.

Initially you may get a Provisional Student Visa by the Indian missions abroad, valid only for limited time period (3 or more months), which can be extended in India, after you arrive and complete the admission/ enrolment/ registration with our university in India. The Visa duration can be extended, by applying online extending your stay in India, to complete the academic program.
Flight Booking
Book your flight to Bengaluru International Airport [code: BLR ] (Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru/ Bangalore). Chanakya University is located approximately 30 min away from the airport. Chanakya University can provide Airport Pickup on request to students who are visiting for the first time to ease the onboarding process (details below)
Health Insurance & Vaccinations
Obtain all necessary vaccinations to avoid medical issues during your stay in India.
Ensure that you have medical insurance that covers your stay in India and insurance is renewed on time. Health insurance is mandatory for international students and part of Student Visa regulations. It is responsibility to student to inform the university and maintain its validity.
Airport Pickup
Inform the Admission Section/ Global Engagement of your arrival details at least two weeks before your departure to arrange for airport pickup. Provide your flight number, arrival date, and time- and keep in touch with them (see contact us section).
Documents to Carry
Bring the following original documents with you:
- Admission offer Letter issued by Chanakya University.
- Passport & student Visa
- All relevant Certificates/Degrees and Transcripts (original/ as requested by university administration).
- 10 passport-size photographs for official use.
Money, Finances & Bank Account
- Rupee is Indian currency and exchange of currency can be done at the airport of you can carry your funds in the any form, as per your convenience.
- You can use International Debit/Credit Cards for transactions in India as cards are accepted almost everywhere.
- Ensure you have sufficient funds for initial expenses such as accommodation, food, and transportation.
- You can open Bank Account in Indian bank after admission and completion of official paperwork, which may take 30 days or more.
Essentials and Utilities
While most necessities can be purchased in India, it’s advisable to carry items that you’ll need for the first few days/weeks. Essentials are also available at stores within a 5 km radius of the university campus and a limited bus service is available to travel from university campus to different parts of the Bangalore city.
In India, the standard electrical voltage is 230 volts with a frequency of 50 Hz. International students visiting India should be aware that the country uses three different types of plug sockets:
- Type D: This 3-pin plug is one of the most common in India.
- Type C: This 2-pin plug, often found in Europe, is also prevalent in India
- Type M: Less common, this is 3-pin plug

Post-Arrival Instructions for International Students
Once you arrive in India and at Chanakya University, follow these steps to ensure a smooth start to your academic journey:
Airport Pickup
- If you’ve arranged an airport pickup, a representative from Chanakya University will greet you at Bengaluru International Airport and assist you with transportation to the campus.
Reporting to the University Administration
- Upon reaching the university, report to the university admission section to complete the registration process.
- Bring your Admission Letter, passport, visa, and other required documents for verification (as advised by admission section).
Accommodation and Settling In
- If you’ve opted for on-campus accommodation, you will be guided to your residence. If you’re staying off-campus, ensure you’ve made the necessary arrangements beforehand.
- Familiarize yourself with the campus and essential facilities like the library, canteens, health centre, and student services.
Attend Orientation
- Participate in the Student Orientation sessions. This is an important event where you will receive vital information on university policies, academic schedules, campus resources, and student support services.
Set Up Banking and SIM Card
- Set up an Indian bank account if required. The university office will guide you through the process.
- Purchase an Indian SIM card for your phone to ensure you have local connectivity. You may need to provide copies of your passport and visa for this.
Explore the Area
- Take some time to explore the local area and familiarize yourself with nearby markets, stores, and transportation options (including university bus).
- Essential items for daily use can be purchased from shops in the vicinity of the campus.
Prepare for Classes
- Review your academic schedule, register for your courses, and ensure you’re familiar with your course structure.
- Ensure you have access to online learning platforms and that your email and university login credentials are working properly.
Stay Connected
- Stay in regular communication with your academic advisor and the Global Engagement section to address any concerns.
