Bridging Science and Innovation: Exploring the Realm of Bioengineering
Bioengineering is a rapidly growing and evolving area which combines engineering principles with biosciences to develop novel solutions and products in diverse areas such as healthcare, medicine, manufacturing and agriculture. Although the most visible areas of bioengineering are in the development of innovative prosthetics and high-tech implants, other areas, such as cell and tissue engineering are set to play a key role in future medicine. Advanced genetic engineering tools such as CRISPR-Cas9 systems, nanotechnology and knowledge of biomaterials are set to dominate the entire biotechnology product pipeline. The bioengineering centre will focus on translational research projects in the areas of socio-economic impact to develop practical and cost-effective solutions and products.
Focus areas include:
- Genetic engineering
- Biomaterials and tissue engineering
- Bioimaging
- Medical devices
- Regenerative medicine
- Gene and drug delivery
