Tiny Droplets, Big Science: A Microfluidics Workshop Experience
Date:25-04-2026SBS successfully organized a one-day workshop on “Droplet-Based Microfluidics for Bioanalytics,” aimed at introducing participants to advanced techniques shaping modern biological research. The workshop highlighted how miniaturizing biological processes into micro-scale droplets enabled faster, more precise, and scalable bioanalytical applications. Participants were introduced to the fundamental principles of droplet microfluidics, various techniques for droplet formation, and the role of surfactants and fluorinated oils in ensuring system stability and efficiency.
The program also included hands-on demo sessions to prepare microfluidic setups, generate water-in-oil droplets, and microscope-based analysis. Practical applications such as dye and drug encapsulation were demonstrated, providing valuable exposure to real-world bioanalytical methods. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Abhishek K. Singh, Senior Scientist at Freie Universität Berlin and Visiting Faculty at the School of Biosciences, whose research and academic expertise lie in microfluidics and bioanalytical technologies, and whose efforts contributed to the successful execution of the program.
