About
Ph.D., Indian Institute of Technology, KanpurAbout
Ph.D., Indian Institute of Technology, KanpurMy primary research interest is Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs), Regulated and Unregulated Emissions, Laser Ignition of Combustible Mixtures, Combustion Visualization using Schlieren/ Shadowgraphy, and Engine Simulation. Tighter emissions norm (Bharat stage 7) is anticipated to officially rollout in 2025-2026 in Indian metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and latter rollout nationwide. My research directions extend the availability and usefulness of technology and its advancement to our society. I believe that this will undoubtedly enhance their quality of living to meet Bharat Stage 7 norms by reducing emissions from conventional fuels if we shifts to gaseous fuels (CNG, Hydrogen and its blends) engines, hybrid engines, and flexi fuel engines along with replacing conventional ignition with laser spark ignition. My plan to explore advanced ignition sources for combustion of future fuel such as Hydrogen, CNG etc. I also explore the application of Hydrogen as blends with other fuels for better combustion. Implementing optical techniques to analyze the combustion characteristics of engine combustion will also be part of my future research.
Growing automotive market and increasing focus on fuel efficiency and emission norms, India could be a significant market for adopting laser ignition technology in the future. However, the high initial costs and challenges related to laser system miniaturization and integration currently hinder widespread commercial adoption.
In a nutshell, laser ignition in ICEs presents significant potential for improving engine performance, fuel efficiency, and reducing emissions.
