My research interests lie at the intersection of law, technology, intellectual property, and corporate responsibility, with a particular focus on how emerging technologies are reshaping traditional legal frameworks. I am interested in examining whether existing laws are capable of addressing new technological realities and, where they are not, how legal and regulatory frameworks can evolve to respond to these challenges.

A major focus of my research is blockchain technology and intellectual property administration. My doctoral research examines the implementation of blockchain in intellectual property administration and explores the possibility of providing appropriate intellectual property protection for blockchain-based assets. I am particularly interested in how blockchain can enhance the registration, authentication, management, licensing, transfer, and enforcement of intellectual property rights while addressing questions of governance, accountability, and legal recognition.

My research also focuses on copyright and emerging digital assets, particularly non-fungible tokens (NFTs), tokenisation, smart contracts, and digital ownership. I examine issues relating to copyright ownership, licensing and assignment, unauthorised minting, digital provenance, infringement, and the distinction between ownership of a digital token and ownership of the underlying intellectual property.

Another significant area of my research is artificial intelligence and law, particularly the implications of generative AI for copyright, authorship, originality, fair dealing, training data, and legal responsibility. I am also increasingly interested in corporate liability and responsibility in the context of AI, including questions of accountability when AI-driven systems cause harm or influence corporate decision-making. This extends my broader interest in understanding how responsibility should be allocated among corporations, developers, users, and other stakeholders in technologically mediated environments.

I also pursue comparative and interdisciplinary research, examining legal developments in India alongside approaches adopted in jurisdictions such as the United States and the European Union. My objective is to contribute to technology-responsive legal frameworks that promote innovation while protecting creators, consumers, businesses, and wider societal interests.

Alongside research, I am interested in legal pedagogy and experiential legal education. I have five years of teaching experience and have trained and mentored students in moot court and trial advocacy, with an emphasis on legal research, case analysis, written and oral advocacy, and practical courtroom skills. I believe legal education must equip students not only with doctrinal knowledge but also with the ability to engage critically with emerging technologies and the new legal challenges they create.

Amith Sriram K. S. is an Assistant Professor at Chanakya University’s School of Law, Governance and Public Policy. He has five years of experience in legal education and two years of professional experience in legal practice. His academic and research interests include Intellectual Property Law, Copyright Law, Technology Law, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain Technology, Non-Fungible Tokens, Digital Assets, and emerging technology regulation.

Prior to joining Chanakya University, he was associated with M.S. Ramaiah College of Law, Bengaluru, where he was involved in teaching, legal research, student mentoring, and academic and institutional activities. He has also contributed to intellectual property research through the Ramaiah Centre for Intellectual Property Research. His professional experience includes two years of legal practice, providing him with practical exposure to legal research, drafting, case preparation, and advocacy.

He is pursuing his doctoral research at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, on implementing blockchain technology in intellectual property administration and offering intellectual property protection for blockchain-based assets. His research has been published in The Journal of World Intellectual Property, including his work on copyright protection for non-fungible tokens in India. He has also contributed to international academic publications on generative AI, blockchain, copyright, and technology law.

He has trained and mentored students in moot court and trial advocacy and has been actively involved in experiential legal education and academic advocacy initiatives.
