Talk by Dr. Shwetha Ramdas on genetic diversity in India and insights for precision health
Date:13-11-2025Dr. Shwetha Ramdas, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Brain Research, IISc Bengaluru, visited our School and delivered an engaging seminar on genetic variation in human populations, with a special emphasis on the Indian population.
She presented her research on genetic diversity within communities enriched with tribal samples, highlighting how these groups, though often outwardly healthy, may be susceptible to lifestyle-related conditions such as metabolic disorders. Her talk highlighted the importance of integrating genomics to develop more inclusive and effective health interventions, particularly for the Indian population, which continues to be underrepresented in major global genome studies.
Following the session, Dr. Ramdas interacted with research scholars, students, and faculty, addressing their queries and fostering insightful discussions. Her visit contributed significantly to enhancing awareness about the role of population genomics in public health and precision medicine.
