Redefining Economics Education
One-Day Faculty Development Programme
The School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences brought together roughly 25 economics teachers from institutions across the region on 7th February 2026 for a Faculty Development Programme on new directions in economics education. Prof. Sushant T. Joshi, Registrar of Chanakya University, opened the day.
The morning session, led by Ms. Isha Sharma and Mr. Ashwin Prakash, focused on how AI, software and data tools are changing the way economists gather evidence, build arguments and present findings. Dr. Prem Kumar A then ran a session on case-based learning, teaching methods that move away from rote instruction towards student-centred engagement with real problems. A Full Programme of Perspectives, Dr. Renjith Raj addressed the widening scope of economics and the value of drawing on other disciplines to understand contemporary economic questions. The day concluded with Prof. T. S. Somashekhar of the National Law School of India University leading an interactive discussion on teaching, research and institutional development. Certificates were distributed at the close.
